Dry cupping is completely non-invasive — no skin is broken. Suction cups are applied to the surface of the skin to decompress the tissue, improve circulation, and relieve muscle tension. It can be done more frequently, has zero downtime, and is a great option for regular maintenance and recovery.
Wet cupping (hijama) is a more intensive treatment that involves a small, controlled incision to release small amounts of blood, interstitial fluid, and metabolic waste from beneath the skin. It’s been practiced for thousands of years as both a therapeutic and traditional wellness practice. Beyond muscle relief, wet cupping works on a deeper level — it promotes regenerative healing, supports areas of chronic injury or inflammation, and helps the body reset at a systemic level. Many clients use it for general health and wellness maintenance, not just pain. Because it’s more intensive, most people do it less frequently — typically every 1–3 months.
Both produce excellent results and both are available at Shifa Wellness. Not sure which is right for you? We’ll walk you through it before your appointment. Note: if you have anemia, low hemoglobin, or are on blood thinners, wet cupping may not be appropriate — please consult your physician first.
No. During the session, you feel a deep pulling sensation — intense in tight areas, but not painful. Most clients say it feels completely different from what they expected. A lot of people fall asleep on the table.
Yes — you will likely get bruises. They are bruises caused by the suction pulling blood to the surface of the skin. They’re not painful and typically fade in 3–7 days. This is completely normal and expected.
Most of our clients come in biweekly, but you can come in more or less frequently depending on your goals. We’ll build a plan with you when you arrive — there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
